Edinburgh City has a well
deserved reputation as one of the most exciting capital cities in the world.
Here are just a few of the things you can do in and around Edinburgh:
The Royal Mile and
Edinburgh Castle
The legendary cobbled
road between Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle is rich in Scottish history.
The city has had a fortress on Castle Rock since the 7th century, and the
only way you could have got into the castle in ancient times, would have
been to try your luck at climbing the sheer cliffs up to its well-guarded
walls. Now, however, you can walk in through
the main gates without fear and even view the ancient Scottish Crown Jewels
which are also on display.
The former Royal Yacht Britannia
At its final resting place, after one million miles of overseas Royal visits.
In and around Princes Street
Wonderful shops, museums and galleries
fill Princes Street. If all of that is too tiring for you, then on one
side are the Princes Street Gardens, a 'country walk' in the middle of
the City.
Haunted City Tours
If you like a scary experience, then
you should try one of the City Ghost tours or visit the newly discovered
Vaults beneath the Old Town, where truly spine chilling events took place.
Edinburgh Tattoo and Festival
Massed pipes, drums, kilts at the Edinburgh
Tattoo and also every August, the Festival; theatre, opera and ballet for
all ages. Also on in August is the equally famous Fringe festival, during
which some of the world's best young comedians can be seen.
Hogmanay (New Year.)
Edinburgh is place to celebrate New Year. Four days of events, if you can stand the pace.
Children's Adventure Tours
These are available for 5-12 year olds - a break for Mum and Dad too.
The Kingdom of Fife & Glasgow
If you've seen all there is to see
in Edinburgh, then the historic Kingdom of Fife is just a ferry trip away.
Glasgow, another famous Scottish city can also be visited by train or bus
in a day.
Or just relax at the Guest House
If all that sounds too much like hard
work, then you can always relax on the beach, or in our lovely walled garden.
